It was in the late forties, when a small grocery shop located in a medium sized town in the Southern part of the island opened its doors to the public for the first time. This was Ninu's Family Store - named after its owner, Antonio, a humble and honest young man, with a growing family.
Early 1972 saw the business changing course and moving closer to the beverage trade. Antonio Piscopo transformed the grocery shop into a wines and spirits outlet and became one of the distribution agents of Simonds Farsons Cisk Ltd. This alliance with Farsons flourished over the years into a strong business relationship.
By time, what had started off as a simple grocery shop evolved into the leading wholesaler of Wines and Spirits to the Trade, with a massive customer base of bars and restaurants. As the business continued to grow, Antonio, who was now being actively assisted by his children, began to plan for the future of his company.
In 1992, Antonio handed over the business to six of his children who formed Antonio Piscopo Co. Ltd. and immediately started to import their own brands of Wines and Spirits in order to complement the already thriving wholesale trade.
A further opportunity presented itself a few years later, and thus, in December of 1996, the company opened their new and, at the time, still innovative venture - Piscopo's Cash & Carry - an outlet located in the North of the Island that catered for all the needs of the catering trade under one roof. This was the first Cash & Carry on the Island and stocked not only beverages, but also canned and frozen foods as well as various items of equipment. The established reputation enjoyed by Antonio Piscopo Co. Ltd. ensured that it was an instant success from day one. Building on the winning formula, another large outlet of this type is presently being planned in the South.
Furthermore, in line with its philosophy of providing a complete range of related services, Antonio Piscopo Co. Ltd. has invested in an ice-making plant that can produce pure Ice flakes and Ice cubes in various convenient sized packs to meet the needs of both the catering trade and the consumer.
Today, although the company still has a very strong presence as a supplier to the trade, it also offers a variety of value-added services to the end consumer, such as the complete coordination of Wines, Spirits and Beverage supplies for Weddings and Parties, a service that is proving to be a great success with customers.

THE HOUSE OF CHARLES GRECH was founded in March 1881 by Charles Grech, who after a distinguished career in Britain’s Royal Navy, decided to settle in his homeland.
He chose a unique location in the fashionable main street of Valletta, then called Strada Reale (later Kingsway and now Republic Street), which consisted of three areas: the front of the establishment was a “high class tobacconist shop” selling the finest imported tobacco products and Dunhill pipes. The middle room housed a very exclusive “sampling bar” which for many years was patronized by the top people of the island and senior officers of the Armed Forces - and the back room was the “office” where his main activity was that of ship chandler and supplier to ships especially those of the Royal Navy.
Charles Grech was succeeded by his sons, Philip and Joseph, who carried on the tradition and progressed to importing and distributing all over Malta and Gozo. They steered the firm through the dark years of World War II, and they were very proud of the fact that in spite of the bombs, it was ‘business as usual’ every single day.
In 1947, Charles, son of Philip joined the firm straight from law school to replace his father who had to retire for health reasons. Soon after, he was joined by his younger brother Godwin, and together they made an excellent team.
Suppliers were eager to appoint Charles Grech & Co. Ltd. as their sole agent and distributor, and today the House prides itself of an extensive portfolio which includes world famous brands from Heineken Export Group, Brown-Forman Beverages Worldwide, Brown-Forman Wines International, Illva Saronno S.p.A., Marie Brizard & Roger Isnternational, Marnier Lapostolle, S.P.I.
