The General Soft Drinks Co Ltd While The Coca-Cola Company is a global company with some of the world’s most widely recognised brands, the Coca-Cola business in Malta, is a local franchise operated by the Mizzi family. Our beverages are produced locally employing Maltese citizens. Our product range and marketing reflect Maltese tastes and lifestyles whilst keeping us deeply involved in the life of the local communities in which we operate.
Coca-Cola business was first introduced in Malta in 1952, thanks to George Spiteri a businessman, who was already a wine and beer wholesaler. Possessing great determination, he started out in a market that was largely dominated by Pepsi. The first small factory was opened in Qormi on May 18, 1952 and from that moment the products of The Coca-Cola Company appeared in this aggressively competitive market. After the death of Mr Spiteri, in 1970, this business was acquired by the Mizzi family, who have run the company ever since.
The Mizzi family is a story of businessmen spanning three generations. It begins with Mr. Spiridione Mizzi, the founding father of the company, who initially was involved in the servicing of the British fleet stationed in Malta.
