The surname ALAMANGO is of Venetian origin and found its way to Malta from Greece, probably Corfu, towards the end of the eighteenth century. The surname ALAMANOS is very common in Corfu and this may be a distortion of the surname of ALAMANGO. Around the beginning of the nineteenth century Venetian rule came to an end and the Ionioan Islands and part of the Greek mainland became a British Protectorate. Around 1820 the British Governor Maitland who was administering both Malta and Corfu at the same time encouraged lots of Maltese to emigrate to Corfu to help in Agriculture and the building trade. Among these people was a certain Constantino Alamango who probably decided to return to the island of his forefathers, and after moving to the Mainland to the city of Nafplio he got married to a Bavarian woman about 1835 and had children there. These children later returned to Malta around 1860. My research has come across many Maltese surnames which still exist on Corfu today having descended from these Maltese emigrants.

Some of these surnames are not of Maltese Origin but all the surnames are found in Malta, also note that colors
appear different on various browsers and operating systems depending of the gamma correction (eg a dark blue color on a Mac can appear almost black on a PC, silver might appear as cyan etc.).
