Born in Valletta, Malta on 25 March
1947 and emigrated to Exeter, Ontario Canada in 1957. After graduation
from the University of Western Ontario he took a social work position in
Aklavik and Inuvik in the Northwest Territories where he authored a book
on the history of the Mackenzie region. The Mackenzie, Yesterday and
Beyond (Hancock House Publishers, 1981) has been used as a textbook in
the cultural inclusion program in the NWT. Following extensive travel
throughout Canada's Arctic, Alfred left the NWT as Regional
Superintendent to live in Northern Alberta and Edmonton.
Since his move to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario he has received a Master's
Degree in Social Work from York University. He has worked largely with
Aboriginal peoples and has written several related articles.
