Gio Maria Camilleri, was born in Mosta and is noted to have built the parish
church of the village of Mgarr, Malta. The oval shape of the contour of the building
was much more difficult to build than the circular shape, like that of the Mosta
parish church. The dome of the church was erected at ground level, then marked
with longitudinal lines of different colors; it was then disassembled and remounted
on top of the building, similar to a jig-saw puzzle.
The oval shape of the floor marble-works inside the church, was designed
by the same man at that time too; it was eventually put in place many
years later, when funds were available. It was so intricate to size and
shape the marble flooring, as all the parts differed from each other.
Later on in life, this same person was asked to build the Xewkija
church in Gozo but he turned this project down. There is an alley to
the rear of the church that is named after him.
