Submitted by Manuel Psaila

Dalli is quite a common surname in Malta. The coat of arm shows two lions holding a TOWER with a flag on top. There are indeed a few famous men with this surnames including several MP's.

Dalli is not a quite common surname in Malta, in fact there are only a few hundreds in the directory pages and the number of dallis on the island are so limited and restricted that we do know each other because somehow or another since there are few of us we all know each other, so if i were you i would rather put down, quite a rare surname on the Maltese Islands

The First Dalli recorded in Malta was that of a refugee from Estonia. He came to Malta in the 15th Century with his original name of Talli. He resided at Zejtun, probably at Marsaxlokk or Ramla, both bays were part of Zejtun. People liked him.
Apparently he did his utmost to spread his name in Zejtun as his family name now changed to Dalli has multipled in Zejtun and neighbouring Gudja.

The surname Talli gradually changed to Dalli. Talli is still very popular in Estonia today.
