As for the name Psaila, it is very usual in Corfu, and should be 100% of
Greek origin, because of the consonental complex at the beginning, which
is very seldom in other languages. In Corfu there are also many Maltese
names (e.g. Xuereb), descendants of the Maltese immigrants who were
brought there by the English.

The name Psaila is the most usual in Corfu. There are more than 800 people with this name. As I found looking in the archives of the Roman Catholic Mitropole in Corfu, Psailas came to Corfu by the English to work in the buelt of guards of Corfu, in the palace of Armosty for the English comander of the Ionian Islands and for the several militaries buelts, in army houses in an old Venecian Fortress and a new Venecian Castle.
The first who came in Corfu from Malta and he arrived first in Cefalonia and he stayed 14 years in Cefalonia before he set off from Cefalonia for Corfu the year 1845, is the father of father my grandfather's. His name was Fred,Andrew,Lawrens Psaila. He set off from SIGGIEWI, Malta on year 1831. He was married to Maria. He was the son of Salvatore Psaila and Maria. He was born in SIGGIEWI, Malta on January 28th of the year 1812.
In Cefalonia, Maria gave birth to their son, Nicolo, they stayed 14 years in Cefalonia and after they set off for Corfu in year 1845.
From this year Psailas were in Corfu. Nicolo married in Corfu the daughter of the English worker Vicenco Mikalef, who was from Scotland, Hellen.
They had eight children, seven sons and a daughter. The names of the sons were, Jhon,Fred,Josef,Salvus,Spiridione,Alexander and Antony. The name of the girl was Maria.
From them all Psailas in Corfu are decendents.
After they came in Corfu , some Psailas from Gzira of Malta stayed together. Now in Corfu there are 800 persons from the same family.
